Short shout 2: Free Hao Wu
Global Voices stalwarts Rebecca MacKinnon and Ethan Zuckerman have
launched a blog (blocked in China -
proxy link or
alternate link) campaigning for the release of recently detained returnee Chinese filmmaker, blogger and fellow Global Voices editor Hao Wu.
The story of who Wu is and why he may have been detained are on the new
site, and also on Rebecca's own blog. Among other things, Wu was
working on a documentary about China's underground churches. MacKinnon
fears that his siezed tapes may now be used to identify others for
detention.
Please go have a read. Please also spare a thought for the many others
who aren't fortunate enough to have organized campaigns for their
release. Every voice that is silenced drags our often abstract
discussions of censorship and morality back into cold, concrete reality.
