Q: Why doesn't Chinese television show Hu's speech live?
I'm not much for live blogging, but I am sitting here trying to watch Hu's and Bush's speeches on CNN right now. It's proving difficult because a woman in the audience is screaming some protest (we couldn't hear exactly what she said), which is causing the censors to keep jamming their fingers down on the button, sending CNN (and the BBC) to black.
However this comprehensively answers a question my wife and I were asking ourselves moments ago. We had been surfing the Chinese stations to see if they were carrying either Bush's or Hu's speeches live. We didn't expect them to carry Bush's speech because of the expected and delivered remarks about human rights. However I did kind of expect them to carry Hu's speech live.
But of course they wouldn't, for just this reason. Commentators are discussing the event, but no one is showing it live.
As I type, the protestor is being hustled away by the police. So much for free speech.
Update: It was a Falung*ng protestor.
From CNN.com:
The ceremony was disrupted by a screaming protester who appeared on
a platform used by news photographers and shouted in English,
"President Bush, stop him from persecuting the Falun G*ng!"The spiritual movement Falun G*ng is condemned by the Chinese government as an evil cult.
She also shouted in Chinese, "President Hu, your days are numbered," according to a translation by reporters on the scene.
The woman protester was led away by uniformed Secret Service agents.

Update 2: The protestor
was an Epoch Times journalist. Not surprising, considering she was on the press dais. They might have trouble getting their White House event credentials certified in future. For those who don't follow this sort of thing, Epoch Times is the FLG affiliated newspaper.
