Mascot for the Beijing Psychedelic Games
The mascot for the Beijing 2008
Psychedelic Paralympic Games has been announced. Meet Fu Niu Le Le (or, roughly, lucky cow Happy Happy):
This illustration is topped by the one that now blankets the walls of my local subway station, in which the multi-hued Le Le is shown strolling through a landscape of truly trippy multihued rainbows and starbursts. I'd like to tip my hat to the organizers of the Paralympic Games for acknowledging that even handicapped people can appreciate the effects of recreational drugs, well known for their ability to make people see a lot of colors and be happy happy.
However, offficially Le Le was selected for the
following reasons:
- Showing the rich concept of the Beijing Paralympic Games
- Embodying the harmony between man and nature
- Carrying rich national style and cultural features
- Cows are widely accepted internationally
- Commanding space for future designs and marketing
And apparently because they are happy happy, much like Stimpson J. Cat (if you are under 25, Google it), who, all things considered, might have made a better mascot. At the launch ceremony, BOCOG chief Liu Qi
said:
[Le Le's] image, with strong Chinese style, combines the virtues of
benevolence, hardworking and striving for excellence. The mascot,
together with the emblem featuring the elements of the Sky, Earth and
Man, will integrate the fine Chinese tradition of "striving to become
stronger and great virtues carrying great responsibilities" with the
theme slogan of the Beijing Paralympic Games -- One World One Dream. It
will also send the best wishes of the Chinese people to people with a
disability in all parts of the world: Happiness, Peace and Good Luck.
One World, One Dream indeed. Peace to you too, man.
Happy, happy.
