Obamamania in Beijing
Note: The following is a political message. Non-US citizens can read this old post instead.
Imagethief is your typical liberal, San Francisco, Brie-eating, Chardonnay-swilling, over-educated, ivory-tower elite Democrat. And proud of it. He is not, however, particularly sold on any one of the current crop of Democratic candidates. I find Hillary uncharismatic and Obama's policies indistinct and the rest of the field is, well...the rest of the field. Plus, it's only May of '07 fer chrissake. I won't get really excited about this for a while.
My unenthusiastic opinion of Obama earned me a rebuke from Kaiser the other day. Perhaps I need to dig into the policy papers. Just as soon as I finish watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force, that is. However Kaiser did clue me in on an upcoming Obama event in Beijing and asked me to mention it, which I am happy to do. It is at the Bookworm next Thursday, June 7th. The details are on Danwei. It's a fundraiser, so donations are expected. But if you're an Obamamaniac, or think you might be, check it out.
Imagethief offers equal time to other Democratic candidates (especially since he knows people who are likely to be involved in the Hillary campaign, and he doesn't want to be uninvited from any parties). You know where to reach me.
My early-campaign apathy aside, it's nice to see the democratic process
coming to China, even if it's the American democratic process. (Trolls:
hold your vitriol. We all know American democracy is flawed. Trust me,
you're preaching to the choir.) And as soon as Imagethief forms any preference among the candidates, you'll all find out about it here. At length, no doubt.
